As a kid, I remember being totally fascinated by the stories and pictures of The Elephant God - Ganesha or Ganpati Bappa. And over the years, my fascination being coupled with faith, has simply grown boundless!!!
The festival of bringing Ganesh idols and worshiping them is called Ganesh Utsav and is celebrated across India in different ways as per the traditions. And in Mumbai; the heart of India, it is celebrated with gusto in practically every nook and corner in make-shift structures, called pandals and even in homes of His devotees. The most popularly visited pandal is of course, of The Lalbaughcha Raja at Lalbaugh, Parel. It is visited by lakhs of people every day and night for a period of about ten days.
In fact people, old and young alike, queue up all night long, just to get His glimpse. And, in spite of the maddening crowds, not even the celebrities can resist the temptation of visiting this pandal, year on year. Its truly a matter of love and devotion, that this Elephant God has always managed to evoke in one and all, truly making our mundane lives, a celebration!! And, so you can well imagine my joy on receiving these rare pictures that clearly depict His vastness vis-a-vis; our smallness.
So, just take some time out and have a close look at each picture. I am sure, whether, you being a believer or not; you will surely love these!!
